PSHE

Personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education and Relationships  Education (RSE) is an essential part of our curriculum and runs through everything we do in school. We believe that children need safe, effective PSHE lessons, whilst addressing sensitive issues which may arise in discussions. PSHE gives children the foundation knowledge to deal with issues which arise in their every day life such as friendships and their emotional wellbeing, as well as thinking about staying safe, money and making positive decisions.

Intent
At our school, we use the PSHE Association to tailor our planning to ensure the children are covering the 3 key areas. These are:
  • Health and Wellbeing
  • Relationships
  • Living in the Wider World
Using these 3 areas, a 2 year long term plan has been created to ensure all skills are taught. Each area has it's own colour to make it clear which area is being covered. Incorporated in the long term plan are  computing themes such as online safety and relationships. These are taught discretely using 'Project Evolve'.

The skills progression document maps out the skills taught across school, from early years to Year 6. This gives us a clear vision of where the children start and how these skills develop as they move through school.

Implementation
PSHE is taught weekly for Class 2, Class 3 and Class 4 and each lesson is adapted to meet the needs of the individuals in the class.  As our children are taught in mixed aged classes, our Long Term Plan is a 2 year cycle to ensure all key skills are taught.
  • We take part in themed weeks such as Anti Bullying week and Child's Mental Health week to support teaching.
  • The whole school take part in daily worship, looking at a range of areas, linked to bible stories and themes.
  • We work with parents to share resources and advice on child's internet safety and mental health.
